Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes looks for its first victory of the season this week while stepping out of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for a pair of road games. The Gray Wolves will take on NCAA Division III Alma on Wednesday afternoon before heading south to Kentucky for a Saturday matinee at Pikeville.
Head Coach Paul Sieben: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Paul Sieben has a 1-18 (.053) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as a collegiate head coach. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes has never face Alma or Pikeville in women's lacrosse prior to this week.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes fell behind 10-1 at halftime and was unable to mount a second half comeback on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves suffered a 20-6 loss to fourth-ranked Indiana Tech.Â
Alyssa Long scored twice to pace the Gray Wolves offensively while
Kiley Ketteman made nine saves in goal. On Saturday afternoon, second-ranked Davenport nine unanswered goals spanning both halves on the way to a 17-5 victory over Lourdes. Long and
Faith Fisher each scored twice for the Gray Wolves while Ketteman made 10 stops in 44 minutes of action between the posts.
Scouting Alma: The Scots have dropped two straight games following a season-opening victory at Huntingdon (Ala.). Alma is coming off of a 19-6 loss at Piedmont on Feb. 27. Tracy Gallihugh leads the Scots in scoring with 12 goals and 15 total points on the season. She also has a team-leading 18 draw controls. Ashton Street has added nine goals and a team-best five assists for 14 points. Emily Reverman leads the team in ground balls with 13 while Miranda Kruse has played every minute in goal, sporting a 16.67 goals against average and a .286 save percentage.
Scouting Pikeville: The Bears have yet to open their season after their first five games have all been postponed or cancelled due to weather. Pikeville is slated to travel to Point on Tuesday and Valdosta State on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Leads the Team in Scoring: Alyssa Long has tallied 10 of the Gray Wolves' 24 goals this season to lead the team in scoring. The Lourdes freshman scored six times in her collegiate debut and has followed with multi-goal games in each of her last two contests as well. Long has scored on 10 of her 23 shot attempts this year.
Scoring from the Free Position: Lourdes has tallied 11 of its 24 goals this season from the free position, and have converted free position shots at a 44.0% rate this year. Conversely, the opposition is just 8-of-22 (36.4%) in free position shots.
Moving Outdoors: Lourdes has yet to play a game outdoors in 2015 as the weather has played havoc with the season. Snow forced the cancellation of two games earlier in the year that were to have been played outdoors in Kentucky while snow and cold temperatures have forced the Gray Wolves two "home" games indoors out of the elements.
Ketteman Makes Big Stops: Kiley Ketteman has saved 40.9% of the shots that she has faced this season. The freshman stopped a season-high 10 attempts against Davenport on Saturday in 44 minutes of action. She has a 15.74 goals against average on the year.
Captains Named: Lourdes will have tri-captains this season.Â
Shelby Linenkugel will serve as a captain for the second consecutive season while
Jessie Frost and
Katie Cerveny will also serve in a leadership role this year.
