Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The regular season comes to a close this week for Lourdes this week as the Gray Wolves play five matches, including four against teams ranked in the top-six. Lourdes will wrap up Great Lakes Conference play on Tuesday at Siena Heights before heading to the Spartan Invitational on Friday and Saturday where they will take on #6 Saint Ambrose, #5 Grand View, #4 Missouri Baptist, and #1 Park.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 63-34 (.649) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 2014. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 11-0 all-time against Siena Heights in a series that dates back to Feb. 14, 2012. The Gray Wolves have won both of the previous meetings this season in three sets. Lourdes is 5-0 against the Saints in Adrian, Mich. Saint Ambrose is 8-0 against Lourdes dating back to Jan. 17, 2012. The Bees won the two prior meetings this year in four sets and three sets respectively. Grand View holds a 2-1 series lead against the Gray Wolves dating back to March 3, 2012. Earlier this year that Vikings won in straight sets at home. Missouri Baptist won the only prior meeting against Lourdes, 3-0, on March 2, 2013 in Davenport, Iowa. Park holds a 2-0 series lead against the Gray Wolves dating back to March 2, 2012. Both matches were played at neutral sites.
Wrapping Last Week: Lourdes hit .466 as a team and
Frank Craig tallied a match-high 10 kills on Tuesday as the Gray Wolves scored a 25-11, 25-8, 25-8 road win at Calumet. Craig hit .593 with 19 kills on Wednesday as Lourdes clinched the GLC title with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 win at Robert Morris (Ill.). The Gray Wolves celebrated Senior Night on Friday at Savage Arena with a three-set sweep of Saint Xavier 25-20, 25-16, 26-24. Craig posted 21 kills to lead all players. Lourdes fell 25-15, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18 at NCAA Division I #14 IPFW on Saturday.Â
Jo'Lon Clark led the Gray Wolves with 14 kills.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints had their four-match win streak snapped on Saturday with a four-set loss to Saint Xavier. Gilius Blinstrubas leads the Saints with 190 kills while Zak Krug has tallied a team-best 162 digs. Lance Blough has recorded 55 blocks and Arthur Mattje Gwoszdz has handed out 549 assists.
Scouting Saint Ambrose: The Bees have won six straight matches after a sweep at Pfeiffer last Wednesday. Jamie Schnittker has a team-leading 212 kills while hitting .307 and Nick Lynch has handed out 921 assists. Adam Kessenich has registered 537 digs while Tony Natalino has 87 blocks to lead Saint Ambrose.
Scouting Grand View: The Vikings have won two of their last three matches after sweeping Culver-Stockton last Thursday. Pedro Cardoso has a team-leading 208 kills and 91 digs while Felipe Rosa has handed out 437 assists. Pedro Nieves Peraza has recorded a team-high 53 blocks.
Scouting Missouri Baptist: The Spartans enter the week following a three-set win over Cincinnati Christian last Tuesday. Mico Janicijevic leads the team with 222 kills and while Kyle Foley has handed out 592 assists. Chris Flood has tallied 96 digs while Shane Welch has a team-leading 62 blocks.
Scouting Park: The top-ranked Pirates have won eight straight matches following a four-set win at Graceland on Thursday. Daniel Arteaga has a team-leading 192 kills while Kastan Maness has a team-best 139 digs. Caio Souza has blocked 96 shots while Milos Trivunic has handed out 680 assists.
Tenth This Week in the Polls: Lourdes remains 10th in the latest NAIA Men's Volleyball poll (week nine) for the second straight week. The Gray Wolves opened the year eighth in the preseason poll before moving up to seventh after week one, which marked an all-time high. Lourdes previous high was ninth in the team's inaugural 2012 season.
A League Title: Lourdes clinched its first regular season league title in program history on Wednesday with the win over Robert Morris (Ill.). At 13-0, the Gray Wolves will look to finish the perfect league slate on Tuesday at Siena Heights and will serve as the top seed for the Great Lakes Conference tournament held at Cincinnati Christian March 27-28.
Match #100: Lourdes second match on Friday night against Grand View will be the 100th in program history. The Gray Wolves enter the week 63-34 all-time through the first 97 contests.
Perfect at Home: With the win over Saint Xavier, Lourdes finished the home slate a perfect 8-0 this year. The Gray Wolves have now won 13 straight home matches, a streak that began Feb. 7, 2014 against Saint Xavier.
This and That: Frank Craig and
Brad Miller are the only Lourdes players to appear in all 74 sets ... the Gray Wolves lead all NAIA in hitting percentage (.302) and kills per set (13.23) and is second in assists per set (12.37) ...
