Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes begins the second half of Great Lakes Conference play this week while playing four times in five days beginning on Tuesday night against Cardinal Stritch. The Gray Wolves end the five-match homestand on Friday versus Trinity International before heading to Cincinnati Christian on Saturday for contests against the Eagles and Saint Ambrose.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 57-32 (.640) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 2014. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Cardinal Stritch holds a 5-3 advantage all-time in a series that dates back to Jan. 27, 2012. The Gray Wolves have won three straight meetings though, including a straight sets win in Milwaukee back on Feb. 6. The Wolves have won all four previous meetings at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes is 1-0 against Trinity International after defeating the Trojans in three sets on Feb. 5 in Deerfield, Ill. This is the Trojans first trip to Tam-o-Shanter. Saint Ambrose is 7-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to Jan. 17, 2012. The Bees defeated Lourdes in four sets on Jan. 31. Lourdes is 3-0 all-time against Cincinnati Christian dating back to Jan. 17, 2014 after a three-set sweep on Feb. 24 at Tam-o-Shanter. The Gray Wolves won their lone previous meeting in Cincinnati.
Wrapping Last Week: Lourdes opened the week with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-13 win at home against Cincinnati Christian on Tuesday.
Jo'Lon Clark had 10 kills and hit .500 for the Gray Wolves while
Frank Craig added six blocks. On Saturday, the Gray Wolves defeated Culver-Stockton 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19. Clark had 16 kills and hit .406 while Craig added 15 kills.
Scouting Cardinal Stritch: The Wolves enter the week having won three straight matches after sweeping Trinity International on Thursday. Cardinal Stritch heads to Cincinnati Christian on Monday before facing Lourdes. Connor O'Ryan leads the Wolves hitting .323 with 77 blocks while Drew Hogan has tallied 222 kills. Patrick Ronan has a team-leading 223 digs.
Scouting Trinity International: The Trojans are still looking for their first win in program history after falling to Cardinal Stritch in three sets on Thursday. Trinity International heads to Siena Heights on Thursday before visiting Lourdes. David Priest has tallied 137 kills while Evan Roble has a team-high 51 digs.
Scouting Saint Ambrose: The Bees enter the week having defeated Morningside in five sets on Sunday. Saint Ambrose hosts Grand View on Wednesday and faces Cincinnati Christian earlier on Saturday before battling Lourdes. Jamie Schnittker is hitting .312 with a team-high 177 kills while Tony Natalino has tallied 72 blocks. Adam Kessenich leads the defense with 230 digs.
Scouting Cincinnati Christian: The Eagles snapped a four-match losing skid on Saturday with a five-set victory over Siena Heights. Cincinnati Christian hosts Cardinal Stritch, Saint Xavier, and Saint Ambrose this week before meeting Lourdes. Ben Leatherman is hitting .321 while Logan Webber has 185 kills for Cincinnati Christian. Ariel Milo has tallied a team-best 214 digs while Lance Wiles has tallied 64 blocks.
Ninth This Week in the Polls: Lourdes moved up one spot in the latest NAIA Men's Volleyball poll (week seven), after the Gray Wolves were ranked 10th last week. The Gray Wolves opened the year eighth in the preseason poll before moving up to seventh after week one, which marked an all-time high. Lourdes previous high was ninth in the team's inaugural 2012 season.
Longest Win Streak in Program History: Lourdes posted a perfect 6-0 record in the month of February, matching the school record for longest win streak in program history. The Gray Wolves previously won six straight matches from Feb. 18-16, 2012 and Jan. 17-31, 2014. The Gray Wolves won 17 straight sets in February before falling in the third against Culver-Stockton last Saturday.
Tops in the Nation: Lourdes remains at the top of the national rankings in several statistical categories. The Gray Wolves are hitting .298 as a team this season, a mark that is best among all NAIA schools. Lourdes is also handing out 13.21 assists per set, a mark that also ranks first nationally. As a team Lourdes is tallying 14.04 kills per set, which also tops the country while defensively leading the nation with 11.77 digs per set.
Still Perfect at Home: Lourdes enters the week a perfect 5-0 at Tam-o-Shanter, heading into the final two games of the season at the facility. The Gray Wolves have won seven straight at Tam-o-Shanter dating back to 2014.
Captains Named: Lourdes has announced co-captains for the 2014 season. Serving in that role are seniors
Frank Craig and
Brad Miller, both of whom served in the same role last year.
