Lourdes dropped both ends of a doubleheader to sixth-ranked Davenport 5-1 and 12-2 on a frigid day at the Farmers Athletics Complex in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Davenport took the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the second inning as two Lourdes miscues aided the Panthers three hits in the inning. A triple and a sacrifice fly in the third and a RBI single in the fourth increased the Panthers lead to 4-0.

Lourdes broke through on the scoreboard in the fifth as
Jonathan Barker (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) plated
Nick Mazgay (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg H.S.). Mazgay was running for
Tim Ward (Mount Orab, Ohio/Mount Orab H.S.), who led off the inning with a walk.

The Panthers added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, which proved to be more than enough as Brendan Bender and Ryan Butzer combined on a five-hitter. Bender earned the win (3-0), pitching five innings, allowing just one run on four hits. He walked four and struck out three. Butzer picked up his first save of the year, allowing just one hit in four innings of scoreless relief.

Frank Shaffer (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.) suffered the loss (0-5), despite giving up just three earned runs and nine hits in six innings on the hill.

In game two, Davenport plated three runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to build a 9-0 lead.

Lourdes scored a pair of unearned runs to break up the shutout in the fifth inning. Barker singled and
Tyler Trame (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) walked to put two runners on base with just one out.Â
Andy Kefalos (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) reached on a throwing error that plated Baker and Trame scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly off of the bat of
Marty Ramirez (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.).

The Panthers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete the scoring.

Barker and
Nate Snow (Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde H.S.) each had two hits for Lourdes in the nightcap. Matt Priebe led Davenport with two hits and three runs batted in during game two.

Anthony Alarcon earned the win (4-0 for Davenport, giving up six hits and the two unearned runs in five innings of work.Â
Matt Olsavsky (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), surrendering six runs, three of which were earned, on just two hits and four walks in three innings.

Lourdes (5-15, 1-7 WHAC) and Davenport (24-2, 10-0) will conclude their four-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon with another doubleheader. First pitch in game one has been moved up one hour to 12 p.m. at the Farmers Athletic Complex.
