Lourdes University's first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match in program history was a tough one as the Gray Wolves fell 2-0 to ninth-ranked Northwestern Ohio at Racer Stadium in Lima, Ohio.
Â
"I thought our team performed well against a very good team," head coach
Barry Spitzer said after the match. "I was happy with how we fought all 90 minutes."
Â
The Racers found the scoreboard first at the 15:18 mark as Sergio Royo found Pedro De Castro in the run of play and De Castro's shot deflected off of Lourdes goalkeeper
Jose Cedillo (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross H.S.) just over the goal line.
Â
Northwestern Ohio (5-2, 1-0 WHAC) added an insurance goal in the 53
rd minute as Pascal Debowiak scored off a short free kick opportunity from Carlos Monterrey.
Â
Lourdes held even in shots in the match, being outshot just 11-9 by the Racers and 6-4 on goal. Cedillo made four saves for the Gray Wolves while Liam Davies also made four stops for Northwestern Ohio in the shutout win.
Â
