In a game in which neither team shot 40% from the floor, Indiana Tech pulled out a 55-46 decision against Lourdes on Wednesday evening at Tam-o-Shanter.
The Gray Wolves shot just 30.9% on the evening, including a 28.6% clip over the final 20 minutes. Indiana Tech connected at a 39.6% rate for the night and outscored Lourdes 30-22 in the paint.
Indiana Tech never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an 8-3 lead just over five minutes into the game. Lourdes managed to pull within one on four different occasions in the first half, but back-to-back three-pointer by Tanner Watkins allowed the Warriors to take a seven-point lead, which proved to be the halftime margin, 30-23.
Two straight triples by
Julian Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Horizon H.S.) early in the second half brought Lourdes within two, 35-33 before the visitors responded with eight straight points. Lourdes was held scoreless for six minutes as the lead increased to 10, 43-33.
Lourdes made one late run, pulling within four, 48-44, with four minutes to play following an
E.J. Blackwell (Rochester, Pa./Rochester H.S.) lay-in, but that would be the final field goal of the game for the Gray Wolves. Indiana Tech made 5-of-6 free throws in the final two minutes to secure the win.
Blackwell led the Gray Wolves with 16 points while
Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Johnson finished with eight points.
Lavonte Davis led Indiana Tech (15-6, 11-3 WHAC) with 14 points while Miles Robinson tallied 13 points and Dominique Walls finished with 12 points.
Lourdes (8-12, 3-10) will take to the road for its next three games, beginning on Saturday with a trip to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle 16
th-ranked Cornerstone. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Mol Arena.
