After trailing by 14 points with under eight minutes to play, Lourdes rallied to tie the game in the final minute, but was never able to take the lead and suffered a 74-70 loss to Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday night at the UMD Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.

Lourdes fell behind 62-48 with 7:22 remaining in the game before battling back. Six straight points cut the deficit to single digits with 4:27 to play before the Wolverines rebuilt a 10-point lead, 64-54, with 3:25 remaining. Four free throws by the Gray Wolves and a three-pointer by
Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) pulled Lourdes within three less than a minute and a half later.

The Michigan-Dearborn lead went back to five with under a minute to play, but a jumper by Steinmetz with 22 seconds left and a basket by
KyJuan Grace (Grove City, Ohio/Westland H.S.) nine seconds later tied the contest. The Wolverines were fouled with 12 seconds to play though, and Anthony Barley made both free throws to put the hosts ahead for good. Lourdes had a chance to tie in the final seconds, but a jumper by Steinmetz missed the mark and the Wolverines added two free throws for insurance.

The Gray Wolves took a quick six-point lead in the first half, only to see Michigan-Dearborn score nine straight points to take an 18-15 lead. A 15-4 run over four minutes allowed the Wolverines to increase their lead to seven, 38-31, at the break.

Lourdes tied the game at 42 five minutes into the second half only to have the Wolverines respond with a 20-6 run to build the 14-point advantage.

Lourdes shot 49% from the floor in the game, but committed 16 turnovers which led to 21 Michigan-Dearborn points.

E.J. Blackwell (Rochester, Pa./Rochester H.S.) led Lourdes with 20 points, making all 11 of his free throws, while Steinmetz added 15 pointts.Â

Marcus Williams led all scorers for Michigan-Dearborn (12-11, 7-8 WHAC) with 24 points while Alex Hagel added 18 points off of the bench. The Wolverines shot 42.1% from the field, but made just nine miscues.

Lourdes (8-14, 3-12) will wrap up its three-game road trip on Saturday in Southfield, Mich. The Gray Wolves will battle Lawrence Tech beginning at 3 p.m. in Ridler Fieldhouse.
