In a game in which neither team would lead by double figures, Lourdes was within two points of Siena Heights with under a minute to play on Saturday evening before falling to the Saints 53-49 at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Lourdes entered the fourth period trailing by one, but a jumper by
Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) put the Gray Wolves in front 44-43 with nine minutes to play. The Saints answered with a three-pointer two minutes later to retake the lead, and eventually built a six-point advantage at the 3:28 mark.Â

Lindsey Motycka (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) made a basket at the 2:54 mark, the final field goal of the night for either team, and Fidler made two free throws with 47 seconds remaining to pull the Gray Wolves within two. After forcing a miss by the Saints, Lourdes had a chance to tie in the final 10 seconds, but a turnover allowed Siena Heights to add a pair of insurance free throws with 6.4 seconds to play to secure the win.

After falling behind 6-0 early in the opening quarter, Lourdes finished the stanza on a 15-2 run to build a seven-point after 10 minutes. A three-pointer by
Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) put the Gray Wolves in front by nine, 20-11, at the 7:17 mark of the second. A 15-4 run by the Saints before halftime put the hosts on top by one, 28-27, at the break.

Siena Heights pushed the lead up to seven early in the third quarter before a 6-0 run by the Gray Wolves to close the stanza made it the one-point game heading into the fourth.

Niki Meyer (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center H.S.) led Lourdes with 12 points while Motycka added 10 more for the Gray Wolves. Fidler finished with eight points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Thompson also had eight points for Lourdes.

The Gray Wolves shot just 31.4% from the floor on the evening, but held Siena Heights to just a 32.2% clip, including just 25% after halftime, to keep the game close.

Avery Chezem led Siena Heights (11-6, 5-5 WHAC) with 14 points while Jaaliyah Arrington added 13 points for the Saints.

Lourdes (4-13, 1-9) will return to Tam-o-Shanter on Wednesday evening to begin a three-game homestand. The Gray Wolves will host Marygrove at 6 p.m. in the final game of the first half of league play.
