Jose Cedillo (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross H.S.) made four saves on his way to his first shutout of the season on Wednesday evening, helping to lead Lourdes to its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win of the year as the Gray Wolves defeated Siena Heights 2-0 at Wildcat Stadium.
Â
"I thought we started getting back on the right track during the second half," head coach
Barry Spitzer stated after the match. "We played much better as a team during the final 45 minutes."
Â
Lourdes wasted little time finding the back of the net as
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (Tamworth, England/Queen Elizabeth's Mercian H.S.) took advantage of a failed Saints clearance and scored from the top of the box for his team-leading 13
th tally of the season just 7:43 into the contest.
Â
The match remained 1-0 into intermission before an own goal just 2:04 out of the locker room increased the Gray Wolves' advantage to two. Kirchoff-Sleet was attempting to send a cross to
Judah Goodridge (Brooklyn, N.Y./Dutchtown H.S.) when a sliding Siena Heights defender redirected the ball into the net.
Â
The Gray Wolves finished the match with a 17-12 shot advantage, including a 7-4 edge on frame. Leo Hisamatsu made five stops for Siena Heights (4-6-1, 1-4 WHAC). Both team had four corner kick opportunities as well on the night.
Â
Lourdes (6-3-1, 1-4) snapped a four-match winless skid with the victory, and will remain at home on Saturday afternoon to continue the current four-match homestand. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium as the Gray Wolves entertain sixth-ranked Northwestern Ohio.
