Indiana Tech combined for 24 runs and 32 hits in Sunday's doubleheader as the Warriors swept the twinbill from Lourdes 13-3 and 11-4 at Mercy Field.
The Warriors jumped in front early in the opener, tallying six runs over the first two innings while registering five extra base hits. Indiana Tech batted around in the fifth, scoring four more times to increase the advantage to 10-0.
Lourdes finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth as
Jordan Wilke (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton H.S.) led off with a pinch-hit single and eventually scored on a run-scoring pinch hit base hit by
Kyle Sherman (Collierville, Tenn./Rossville Christian Academy).
Indiana Tech added a single run in the sixth on a home run by Keith Tatum, who completed his cycle as part of a 5-for-5 game. He also drove home three runs in the game. Two more Warrior runs scored in the seventh to build a 13-1 lead.
Back-to-back leadoff walks by
Jared Schriner (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) and Wilke and a two-out free pass to Sherman loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh before
Mike Vomastek (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson H.S.) came through with a two-run single. The Gray Wolves were unable to plate another run though to keep the game going.
Cody Kellar earned the win (2-0) for the Warriors, allowing one run and three hits in six innings of work while striking out three.
Kolby Rogge (Toledo, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) suffered the loss (0-2), surrendering six runs and nine hits in three frames.
Indiana Tech (5-1, 5-1 WHAC) sent 10 batters to the plate in the opening inning of game two while taking an early 5-0 lead.
After the Warriors added another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, Lourdes plated its first run in the fifth.
Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.) doubled home
Derek Scott (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) to pull the Gray Wolves within 8-1.
Lourdes added three more runs in the seventh as
Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Paradise Valley H.S.) led off with a pinch-hit single and moved to third on a single by Scott.
Zach Brown (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) delivered a run-scoring double and Scott scored on a wild pitch. Stanley added his second hit and second RBI of the day with a single through the left side.
The Warriors added a run in the eighth and two unearned tallies in the ninth to close out the scoring.
Jason Sterrett worked five innings, allowing one run and three hits for the win (1-1), fanning five.
Zack Zsolcsak (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), allowing five runs and five hits in just two-thirds of an inning.
Lourdes (0-6, 0-6) will close out the fall portion of its schedule next weekend with a three-game series against Marygrove. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader at Jimmy Johns Field in Utica, Mich. is set for 1 p.m.
