Lourdes forced 32 Michigan-Dearborn turnovers, 21 via steals, and earned its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Wolverines 81-71 at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
The Gray Wolves parlayed the Michigan-Dearborn miscues into 33 points, posting the team's first win ever in the new building.

Summer Quesenberry said afterwards. "Today we focused on our defensive team principles. There were less mental lapses on transition defense and we contained middle penetration better than we have in our previous six games. We were able to compete and ultimately win today because of our defensive prowess. We have the expectation that our defense will provide the consistency this team needs in order to be compete in in the WHAC."
The game was tied after the opening quarter, before the Wolverines hit a triple to begin the second, taking a 19-16 lead, their largest of the contest. Lourdes responded right away, and eventually scored the final five points of the period to take a 36-31 lead into the locker room.
The lead grew to as many as nine, 50-41, in the third quarter before the Wolverines went on a 9-1 run to pull within one. Seven straight points by Lourdes in a minute span, including a three-point play by
Elayna Ackerman (Fremont, Ohio/Ross H.S.), allowed the Gray Wolves to build the lead back to eight before holding a 58-53 lead heading into the final stanza.
Lourdes scored 10 of the first 12 points in the final quarter to push the lead to 13, and never allowed the Wolverines closer than six the rest of the way.
Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) led Lourdes with 17 points, making 11-of-14 from the free throw line, while also sharing the team's top honors with seven rebounds and six steals.
Kalena Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) added 14 points and six thefts while
Samantha Enck (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) tallied her first double figure game as a collegian, scoring 11 points.
Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) gave Lourdes four double figure scorers with 10 points, while added seven boards.
"Offensively, we did a great job attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line," Quesenberry added. "We also pursued the offensive boards with a stronger tenacity. We look for our team to build off the foundation set today and continue pursuing team growth and unity."
Lourdes finished the game shooting 38.5% from the floor, and shot 38 free throws in a game which saw 51 combined fouls called. The Gray Wolves did commit 23 turnovers on the offensive end though.
Megan Swick led Michigan-Dearborn (3-6, 1-1 WHAC) with 17 points while Emily Heinrich added 14 points for the Wolverines, which shot 40.7% from the floor as a team.
The Gray Wolves outrebounded their guests 44-42, grabbing 18 offensive boards.
Lourdes (1-6, 1-1) will return to the road on Tuesday evening, heading to Ann Arbor, Mich. to battle Concordia (Mich.). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside of Cardinal Fieldhouse.
