Georgetown Defeats Lourdes to Close Habitat for Humanity Classic

Lourdes wrapped up its weekend at the Habitat for Humanity Classic on Saturday afternoon, dropping an 87-52 contest to host Georgetown (Ky.) at the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym in Georgetown, Ky.

"We were very thankful to be invited to play in Georgetown's Habitat Classic," head coach Summer Quesenberry said after the game.  "It allowed our program, staff, and players to have an impact on the Scott County community through Habitat for Humanity."

Lourdes struggled offensively throughout the contest, connecting on just 28.1% of its shots from the floor, including just 2-of-12 (16.7%) of its three-point shots.  The Gray Wolves also shot just 63.6% from the free throw line and committed 17 turnovers.

Georgetown shot 53.4% from the field, including 41.7% from long range, for the game.  The Tigers built a 38-23 lead at halftime and increased its advantage to 62-34 after three periods.

"We have to play together with a focus on our principles," Quesenberry said.  "Today we played undisciplined and failed to demonstrate our values as a program.  We turned the ball over too much, allowed too many second shot opportunities, and shot poorly from the free throw line.  We are simply beating ourselves."

The Tigers held a 44-33 advantage on the glass on Saturday.

Elayna Ackerman (Fremont, Ohio/Ross H.S.) led Lourdes with 16 points and four steals while Daja Whiteside (Auburn Hills, Mich./Avondale H.S.) added 13 points and 11 boards for her first collegiate double-double.

Shelby Beam led Georgetown (1-1) with 15 points while Lydia Graves added 12 points for the Tigers.

Lourdes (0-3) will return to the hardwood next weekend as the Gray Wolves head to Barbourville, Ky. for the Union College Classic.  The Gray Wolves tip off against host Union (Ky.) at 8 p.m. on Friday night at Robsion Arena.
