Lourdes posted its first victory in program history on Thursday evening, registering a 27-19 victory over Adrian in the Franciscan Center Gymnasium.
"This was a tremendous overall team effort tonight," head coach
Dock Kelly III said afterwards. "I am grateful that we were able to notch our first dual meet win. Achieving this feat in front of another capacity crowd here at home was an added bonus."
The Gray Wolves got off to a quick start, as
Lane Trapp (Alexandria, Ala./Alexandria H.S.) won via forfeit at 125 pounds.
Tyler Roberts (Hudson, Mich./Hudson H.S.) followed with his team-leading sixth victory of the season at 133, scoring a 17-2 technical fall over Dominic Paterra.
Jacob Supina (Sandusky, Ohio/Saint Mary Central Catholic H.S.) earned his first victory as a Gray Wolves, registering a fall against Marcus Richardson midway through the second period, increasing the Lourdes advantage to 16-0 following the 141-pound weight class.
Garrett Carter (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Saint Vincent-Saint Mary H.S.) improved to 6-2 on the year at 149 pounds, scoring an 8-0 major decision over Adrian's Ty Jasman.
Adrian (0-9) posted wins in each of the next four classes, two by decision, a technical fall, and a major decision to close within 21-16.
Ernesto Quintanilla (Miamitown, Ohio/Harrison H.S.) secured the win for the Gray Wolves, winning by forfeit at 197 pounds, as the Bulldogs won the final bout at 285.
"We will continue to work hard over the upcoming Christmas break, and we will come back ready to compete Jan. 14," Kelly concluded.
Lourdes (1-7) will take six weeks off for finals and the holidays before returning to the mat on Jan. 14 at the Spartan Mat Classic hosted by Manchester. The event begins at 9 a.m. at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena in North Manchester, Ind.
