Second-ranked Cornerstone pulled away from Lourdes in the second half on Wednesday as the Golden Eagles defeated the Gray Wolves 83-64 at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"Cornerstone is a great program," head coach
Josh Gibson said. "It's a great opportunity to challenge ourselves. I was happy with how we competed in the first half. We have to keep focused on the game in front of us and try to win every possession."

Trailing 33-24 at the break, Lourdes pulled within six on the first possession of the second half on a three-point play by
Desmond Frazier (Ocala, Fla./Dunnellon H.S.), but Cornerstone would answer with the next seven points to start an 18-2 run to distance themselves from the hosts.Â

Trailing by as many as 26 in the second half, Lourdes was able to cut the deficit under 20 down the stretch.

Lourdes never led in the game, but kept the deficit in single digits for all but 16 seconds of the first half.

Najeeb Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights H.S.) led Lourdes with 26 points while Frazier added 12 more.Â
Levert Bristol (Dothan, Ala./Northview H.S.) tallied a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while
Malik Thurman (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins H.S.) chipped in 10 points.

Kyle Steigenga led Cornerstone (11-1, 5-0 WHAC) with 25 points and 10 boards while Michael McLaughlin added 18 points.

Lourdes (2-10, 1-5) remains home on Saturday to host Indiana Tech in a 3 p.m. contest.
