In the opener, Cleary jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second before adding single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Lourdes got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth on a
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central H.S.) sacrifice fly which plated
Nick Toth (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson H.S.). Toth had led off the inning with a double.
The Cougars added two insurance runs in the sixth before Lourdes tried to rally in the seventh. Toth doubled for the second time in the game and moved to third on a single by
Glen Crabtree (Median, Ohio/Black River H.S.). Pastor singled home Toth.
Alex Samson (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville H.S.) drew a walk to load the bases, but the Gray Wolves were unable to push across any more runs.
Toth and Crabtree both went 2-for-3 in the game to account for four of the Gray Wolves' five hits. John Malbone and Dugan Roosa each had a pair of hits for Cleary in the opener as part of their 10-hit attack.
Gunnar Gail earned the win (1-0), allowing two runs and five hits in 6.2 innings of work.
Bill Laranga (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), allowing four runs, three of which were earned, and seven hits in 4.1 innings on the hill.
Cleary (2-2) took advantage of five Lourdes errors and scored eight unearned runs in game two. The Cougars scored one in the second before adding five in the third and three more in both the fourth and fifth frames.
Lourdes broke up the shutout in the seventh as
Matt York (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) drew a pinch hit walk, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. A
Garrett Jex (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green H.S.) sacrifice fly plated the team's lone run.
Toth again had two hits, including his third double of the game as Lourdes tallied five hits in game two as well. Joel Ledford went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three runs batted in to lead Cleary.
Payton Tyndall earned the win (1-0), scattering just four hits and striking out five in 5.1 innings of shutout ball.
A.J. Schraffenberger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), surrendering nine runs, only one of which was earned, and eight hits in 3.1 innings on the bump.
