Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The busiest week remaining on the Lourdes schedule arrives for the Gray Wolves, beginning on Wednesday evening when Cincinnati Christian visits Tam-o-Shanter for a Mideast Conference match. Lourdes will then head to Milwaukee, Wis. this weekend for four matches in the Stritch Wolves Invitational. The eighth-ranked Gray Wolves face Hannibal-LaGrange and seventh-ranked Clarke on Friday before battling Morningside and host Cardinal Stritch.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fifth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 83-40 (.675) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 5-0 all-time against Cincinnati Christian in a series that dates back to Jan. 17, 2014. The Gray Wolves have won all five matches in straight sets, including earlier this year in Cincinnati, Ohio on Jan. 27. Lourdes holds a 3-0 advantage against Hannibal-LaGrange going back to March 12, 2012, with all three meetings coming at neutral sites. Clarke holds a 6-1 series edge against Lourdes dating back to Feb. 17, 2012. The Crusaders have won four straight meetings, including a 3-1 decision at Tam-o-Shanter on Jan. 22 of this season. Lourdes and Morningside will be meeting for the first time on Saturday. Cardinal Stritch holds a 6-5 edge in the series that dates back to Jan. 27, 2012. Lourdes won the previous meeting this year in four sets on Feb. 19 in a match that was played at Springfield High School.
Earlier This Season: Lourdes scored a 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 victory on the road at Cincinnati Christian on Jan. 27.Â
Eric Ubior tallied 12 kills as Lourdes hit .365 as a team. Phillip Andrews led the Eagles with 12 kills. On Jan. 22, Clarke tallied a 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20 win over the Gray Wolves in the Lourdes Invitational.Â
Garrett Jones had 12 kills for Lourdes while Isaiah Acfalle led Clarke with 20 kills.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes swept Saint Xavier in less than an hour 25-14, 25-18, 25-11 on Friday evening at Tam-o-Shanter.Â
Eric Ubior had 12 kills and
Ryan Maune added 10 kills and hit .833 in the win.Â
CJ Rilveria tallied 14 digs. As a team Lourdes hit .512 for the match with just seven errors.
Scouting Cincinnati Christian: The Eagles enter the week following a three-set win at Bluefield on Saturday. Logan Weber leads the team with 190 kills while Michael Hiroskey has handed out 501 assists and tallied 22 aces. Shaun Kanoho has 157 digs while Lance Wiles has tallied 51 blocks.
Scouting Hannibal-LaGrange: The Trojans enter the week having dropped four straight after falling in straight sets to Park last Tuesday. Hannibal-LaGrange faces Greenville and Lindenwood-Belleville prior to facing Lourdes. Joao Sales Neto has posted a team-high 187 kills and is hitting .265 for the Trojans.
Scouting Clarke: The Crusaders snapped a three-match losing skid on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Calumet. Isaiah Acfalle leads Clarke with 260 kills while Joshua Phalen has tallied 235 digs.
Scouting Morningside: The Mustangs enter the week having dropped three straight contests after falling 3-0 to Graceland on Saturday. Morningside plays three matches in the Wolves Invitational before facing Lourdes. Raul Rivera Rojas leads the team with 287 kills.
Scouting Cardinal Stritch: The Wolves have won five of their last seven matches, but are coming off of a 3-1 setback to Park on Saturday. Cardinal Stritch plays four matches this week before facing Lourdes. Connor O'Ryan leads the team with 118 kills this year.
Ferkel Honored After Surpassing 1,000 Assists: Ryan Ferkel tallied 40 assists last Friday against Saint Xavier, and was named the NAIA Setter of the Week for the second time this season. He surpassed the 1,000-assist mark, entering the week with 1,002 career helpers, including a career-high 609 assists this season.
Among the Nation's Leaders: As a team, Lourdes leads the nation statistically in digs per set, as the Gray Wolves have tallied 12.65 per stanza thus far this year. The Gray Wolves also lead the in NAIA averaging 13.24 kills per set and 12.37 assists per set, while ranking fourth in blocks per set (2.18) and fifth in hitting percentage (.285).
Individual Leaders: CJ Rilveria ranks leads all of NAIA men's volleyball tallying 3.81 digs per set this season while
Ryan Maune is second nationally averaging 1.25 blocks per set. Maune is also fourth in the country hitting .446 while
Ryan Ferkel is sixth nationally handing out 9.98 assists per set.Â
Brendan Brown is sixth in the country hitting .416 himself.
