Lourdes wrapped up its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series of the season on Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to 22
nd-ranked Davenport by scores of 6-0 and 5-1 at Mercy Field.

"Despite the sweep I'm proud of how the team played," head coach
Jeremy Snow said afterwards. "Outside of a couple of innings this weekend, we played a solid series against a very good team. Our starting pitching was strong again today and we made plays defensively. We just couldn't get the big hit."

In the opener, Corey Sessions threw eight innings of three-hit ball for the Panthers to earn the win (3-1), striking out six and walking just one while Alex Schuiling came in to pitch the ninth to combine on the shutout.

Davenport took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning, utilizing a sacrifice fly and a squeeze bunt. The game remained 2-0 until the seventh, but the visitors added single runs in the seventh and eighth. A two-run ninth capped the scoring for the Panthers.

Brandon Holt (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) suffered the loss (2-2), allowing four runs and 13 hits in eight innings of work. He struck out three while walking two.

Glen Crabtree (Medina, Ohio/Black River H.S.) had two of the Gray Wolves' three hits while
Nick Toth (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson H.S.) had a lead-off single in the fifth.

Lourdes took the lead in the first inning of game two.Â
Garrett Jex (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green H.S.) walked with one out and Crabtree followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position.Â
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Hudson H.S.) plated a run with a groundout for the team's lone RBI on the day.

Davenport (18-7, 6-0 WHAC) took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs and added two more insurance tallies in the seventh.

Michael Meade earned the win (1-0), allowing one run and two hits in four innings on the hill while
Bill Laranga (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) suffered the loss (0-4), despite tossing a complete game. Laranga allowed nine hits and two walks while fanning four.

Lourdes (4-16, 0-4) will begin a 10-game road trip on Tuesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves face Grace. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. at Miller Field in Winona Lake, Ind.
