Box Score Lourdes completed an undefeated conference slate on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves defeated Siena Heights 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 to win the Mideast Conference regular season crown at the SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
"This was a really important match for us," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We didn't play our best, but we played well and really help them in check. Our team defense and transition offense won the match for us."
The win is the eighth straight for the Gray Wolves, tying the school record for longest winning streak in program history. Lourdes also won eight consecutive matches earlier this season. The Gray Wolves have also set a new school mark for victories in a season with their 21
st following Wednesday's win.
Garrett Jones (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas H.S.) tallied 18 kills and hit .405 to lead the Gray Wolves while
Zachary Hawkins (Dickinson, Texas/Dickinson H.S.) added 11 kills.
Ryan Ferkel (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly H.S.) recorded a double-double with 34 assists while also tallying 19 digs defensively.
Eric Ubior (Guaynabo, P.R./Wesleyan Academy) had 10 digs as well for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves outdug the Saints 62-50 for the match.
Tyler Hubbard-Neil led Siena Heights (16-7, 3-2 MEC) with eight kills while John Kalugar had 18 digs.
With the regular season title, Lourdes will now host the Mideast Conference tournament next Friday and Saturday, April 8-9 at Springfield High School. The semifinal matches will take place on Friday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. with the championship on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Lourdes (21-3, 6-0) will close out the 2016 regular season on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves host Calumet. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. with Senior Night activities taking place prior to the match.
