Box Score Lourdes saw its 2016 season come to a close on Friday in its final pool play match at the NAIA National Invitational, falling to third-ranked Grand View 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 at the Petty Sports and Recreation Complex in Saint Louis, Mo.

The Gray Wolves close the season with a record of 25-5, setting a new school record for victories in a season.

"Grand View played really well today and you could tell they didn't want to lose," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "We competed well this weekend against some of the best teams in the country. We will look to improve upon this year going into next season."

Zachary Hawkins (Dickinson, Texas/Dickinson H.S.) led Lourdes with 12 kills, hitting .370 for the afternoon.Â
Ryan Maune (Washington, Mo./Saint Francis Borgia H.S.) and
Eric Ubior (Guaynabo, P.R./Wesleyan Academy) added eight kills each for the Gray Wolves, which hit .225 as a team. Maune also was involved in all four of Lourdes' blocks on the day.

CJ Rilveria (Kula, Hawaii/Kekaulike H.S.) registered six digs, most on the squad, while
Ryan Ferkel (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly H.S.) handed out 29 assists.Â

Grand View hit .351 for the match, led by Pedro Cardoso's 24 kills and .568 hitting percentage. Savili Bartley added 10 kills while hitting .692. The Vikings outdug Lourdes 31-21 for the match as well.

The match ended the careers of
Bryan Downs (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon H.S.) and
Garrett Jones (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas H.S.). Downs finished 234 career digs and 232 career assists while Jones tallied 649 kills, 331 digs, and 125 blocks in his four years.
