Â
"Aside from a couple innings today, we competed really well today," head coach
Jeremy Snow said. "Unfortunately our offense hasn't been there all year."
Â
The opener saw solid pitching from both teams.  Brian Gremaux and Connor McLaughlin combined to limit Lourdes to just two hits, both by
Glen Crabtree (Medina, Ohio/Black River H.S.). Gremaux went 5.1 innings to earn the win (3-0), allowing the two hits, a single and a double, while McLaughlin recorded his second save of the year, striking out five in relief.
Â
Lourdes hurlers were nearly as good, as a quartet held the Warriors to just one run and six hits. In the third, Charlie Sipe and Brian Hakes registered back-to-back two-out doubles to plate the game's only run.
Â
Bill Laranga (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) started and worked three innings, striking out four while allowing just three hits and the one run while suffering the tough loss (0-5).Â
A.J. Schraffenberger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick H.S.) tossed three innings of scoreless relief, facing just nine hitters, while
Liam Bloom (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) and
Adam Hoyos (Oro Valley, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro H.S.) each threw a scoreless inning.
Â
"We hung with a very good team, but just came up short in game one," Snow stated. "The pitching was great."
Â
In game two, 23
rd-ranked Indiana Tech (24-5, 8-2 WHAC) took advantage of five Gray Wolf errors, and did all of its scoring in just two innings. The Warriors plated three runs in the first, two on a home run by Hakes, before adding five runs in the bottom of the fourth, two of which were unearned.
Â
Lourdes scored its lone run of the day in the top of the fourth.Â
Nick Toth (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson H.S.) and
Noah Hayes (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek H.S.) each singled before Toth scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central H.S.).
Â
The Gray Wolves managed just four hits in the nightcap, three coming off of starter Jared Harvey, who earned the win (3-0), pitching five innings allowing just the one run. He struck out five.
Â
Zack Zsolcsak (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) suffered the loss (1-2), surrendering three runs in two innings on the hill.Â
Â
Lourdes (5-21, 0-8) will return home to Mercy Field on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves begin a four-game weekend series against Siena Heights. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
