Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Postseason volleyball begins this weekend for Lourdes University as the Gray Wolves host the Mideast Conference tournament at Springfield High School. The seventh-ranked Gray Wolves will battle Lawrence Tech in Friday's semifinals. With a win, Lourdes would face either Siena Heights or Cincinnati Christian in Saturday's championship.
On the Air: Saturdays's championship match will be broadcast by BCSN on Buckeye Cablesystem. The match will air on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on BCSN and at 11 p.m. on BCSN2.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fifth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 90-40 (.692) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 3-0 all-time against Lawrence Tech in a series that began on Jan. 20, 2016. The Gray Wolves won both previous home matches against the Blue Devils. Lourdes is 15-0 all-time against Siena Heights dating back to Feb. 14, 2012. The Gray Wolves are 8-0 all-time against the Saints at home. Lourdes is 6-0 all-time against Cincinnati Christian in a series that began Jan. 17, 2014. The Gray Wolves are 3-0 against the Eagles at home. Earlier This Season: Lourdes swept all three meetings this season against Lawrence Tech, including two played at Tam-o-Shanter. The most recent contest took place on Feb. 10, a 25-5, 25-16, 25-10 victory for the Gray Wolves at home. Lourdes won all three contests against Siena Heights, two of which were in four sets. The most recent contest was last Wednesday in Adrian, Mich., a 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 Gray Wolf sweep. Lourdes swept both contests against Cincinnati Christian, including a 25-19, 25-16, 25-15 triumph at home on March 16.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes swept Siena Heights 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 on Wednesday night to clinch the Mideast Conference regular season title.Â
Garrett Jones hit .405 with 18 kills while
Ryan Ferkel handed out 34 assists and recorded 19 digs. On Friday, the Gray Wolves celebrated Senior Night with a 25-18, 25-10, 25-16 victory at home against Calumet.Â
Zachary Hawkins tallied 12 kills and
CJ Rilveria added 11 digs.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils are still looking for their first victory in program history, and enter the tournament following a three-set loss at Cincinnati Christian last Friday. Haykel Chala leads Lawrence Tech with 65 kills on the year.
Scouting Cincinnati Christian: The Eagles enter the tournament having dropped two of their last three matches after suffering a three-set sweep at Siena Heights last Saturday. Logan Webber leads Cincinnati Christian with 267 kills in 2016.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have won 10 of their last 11 matches after a three-set sweep at Cincinnati Christian on Saturday. Matthew Dugan leads the Saints with 205 kills this season.
Conference Tournament History: Lourdes is 6-3 all-time in conference tournaments, having won the Great Lakes Conference tournament title in 2014. The Gray Wolves advanced to the GLC championship match last season, only to fall in four sets to Cardinal Stritch.
Back-to-Back: Lourdes finished the Mideast Conference schedule a perfect 6-0 to win its second straight conference regular season title. The Gray Wolves went 14-0 as members of the Great Lakes Conference last season, and have a 23-match regular season conference winning streak which began with a 3-1 win at Saint Xavier on March 8, 2014.
School Records: Lourdes enters the MEC tournament having won nine consecutive contests, setting a new school record win streak. The previous record was eight straight wins set Feb. 3 through March 6, 2015 and matched earlier this season Jan. 23 through Feb. 19. In addition, the Gray Wolves have won a school record 22 victories this season.
The Nation's Best: As a team, Lourdes leads the nation statistically in digs per set, as the Gray Wolves have tallied 13.28 per stanza. The Gray Wolves also lead the in NAIA averaging 13.54 kills per set and 12.73 assists per set.
Among the NAIA Individual Leaders: CJ Rilveria ranks leads all of NAIA men's volleyball tallying 3.66 digs per set this season while
Ryan Maune is third nationally averaging 1.18 blocks per set. Maune is also third in the country hitting .455 while
Ryan Ferkel is fifth nationally handing out 10.52 assists per set.Â
Brendan Brown is fifth in the country hitting .401 himself.
