Lourdes wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 9-6 contest to Indiana Tech at Warrior Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Â
With the victory, the Warriors completed a three-game weekend sweep of the Gray Wolves.
Â
"Although I'm not satisfied with the result, I'm extremely proud of how we competed in this series," head coach
Jeremy Snow said after the game. "We never quit. Our offense fought hard, the defense played well, and our pitching gave us a chance to win. Now we must learn how to put it all together for a complete game."
Â
Indiana Tech (5-1, 5-1 WHAC) took advantage of two walks and an error in the opening inning to score three times and build an early lead.
Â
Lourdes battled back, as a triple by
Glen Crabtree (Medina, Ohio/Black River H.S.) and a double by
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central H.S.) each drove home a run in the fourth.Â
Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.), who had three hits on the day, led off the fifth with a double and scored on a two-out single by
Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Bradshaw Mountain H.S.), tying the game at three.
Â
The Warriors retook the lead with a single run in the bottom of the fifth and added two more runs one inning later to rebuild a three-run advantage, 6-3.
Â
Again the Gray Wolves responded, scoring a pair of runs in the seventh on a single by Riggs and a sacrifice fly by Crabtree. However, Indiana Tech plated three insurance runs in the bottom of the frame to offset one final tally by Lourdes in the eighth.Â
Â
Riggs also had three hits in the game while
Michael Davis (Whittier, Calif./California H.S.) added two more for the Gray Wolves as Lourdes outhit Indiana Tech for the third straight game, 12-10.
Â
Joe Wolf earned the win (1-0) for Indiana Tech with one inning of relief while
Liam Bloom (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1), allowing four runs, three of which were earned, and seven hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Â
Lourdes (3-3, 3-3) will resume action in early March when the Gray Wolves travel to Florida for their annual spring trip.
