Late Flurry of Goals Pushes UNOH Past Lourdes

Lourdes held a lead over the University of Northwestern Ohio until the 60th minute on Saturday afternoon, but the Racers scored four times in 30 minutes to defeat the Gray Wolves 4-1 at Racers Stadium in Lima, Ohio.

Judah Goodridge (Brooklyn, N.Y./Dutchtown H.S.) put Lourdes in front in the 27th minute, tallying his team-leading 10th goal of the season while Reece Riccardi (Jupitar, Fla./Suncoast H.S.) collected his third assist of the year.

The Gray Wolves maintained the advantage into the break, despite being outshot 6-2 over the opening 45 minutes.  The two shots would prove to be the only ones Lourdes would manage on the afternoon, when the final whistle blew.

The Racers tied the game in the 60th minute as Petteri Pietola found the back of the net to even the contest at one.  Northwestern Ohio (8-4-1, 5-2 WHAC) took the lead for good with 13:04 to play as the result of an own goal, knocked in by a Gray Wolf defender.

Pepe Cejudo added an insurance tally with just over seven minutes to play before Nelson De La Pava scored the final goal of the match with just 43 seconds to play.

"I thought we played really well in the first half, and even into the second half," head coach Barry Spitzer said afterwards.  "They did a good job of adjusting, and they were able to utilize their depth down the stretch to wear us down."

UNOH finished with an 18-2 shot advantage for the match, including 12-1 on frame.  Jose Cedillo (Monterrey, Mexico/Norcross H.S.) made eight saves between the posts for the Gray Wolves.

Lourdes (4-7-1, 2-5) will wrap up its four-match road trip on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle Cornerstone.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Soccer Stadium.
