Lourdes tipped off its 2017-2018 season on Sunday afternoon, falling to NCAA Division I foe Western Michigan 106-51 inside of University Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich. in an exhibition game.
Western Michigan made its first seven shots from the floor and raced out to a 29-4 lead over the first nine minutes of the contest on its way to shooting 57.8% from the field for the contest. The two teams played even over the next six minutes before the Broncos went on a 10-1 run just before halftime to take a 51-21 lead into the intermission.
The Broncos added a 24-8 run late in the second half to reach the game's final margin. Lourdes shot 39.5% from the floor on the afternoon, but committed 34 turnovers while taking just 43 total shot attempts. Western Michigan outscored Lourdes 43-5 on points off of turnovers for the game.
Malik Thurman (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins H.S.),
Darriontae Stewart (Cleveland, Ohio/Rhodes H.S.), and
Vic McEwen (Flint, Mich./Atherton H.S.) led Lourdes with seven points each in the game while Stewart, Thurman, and
McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield Heights H.S.) each pulled down a team-high four rebounds. The Gray Wolves played 13 players, all between nine and 21 minutes in the contest.
Josh Davis led Western Michigan with 29 points, making 10-of-12 shots from the floor, including 5-of-6 from three-point range, while Seth Dugan added 17 points.
Lourdes will open its regular season on Monday evening, as the Gray Wolves host Great Lakes Christian. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
