Lourdes began the 2017-2018 season at home on Monday evening, as the Gray Wolves defeated Great Lakes Christian 79-63 inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
 
"I was pleased with our overall effort and teamwork tonight," head coach Summer Quesenberry said after the game.  "It was great to open our season in front of our home crowd.  We had the opportunity to play our entire team in which nearly everyone scored.  We rebounded well and will continue to build defensively."
 
Lourdes limited Great Lakes Christian to 26.7% shooting from the floor in the first half, including just 2-of-13 in the first quarter, and forced 15 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.  The Gray Wolves finished with a 59-49 rebounding edge as well, grabbing 22 offensive caroms, which resulted in 24 second chance points.
 
The Gray Wolves jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the game's first five minutes and led by nine after the opening quarter, 21-12.  Great Lakes Christian scored the first seven points of the second as part of a 14-4 run, taking the lead 26-25, with 4:11 to play before halftime.  Lourdes closed the period on a 12-3 spurt though, and took a 40-29 advantage into the locker room.
 
Great Lakes Christian (0-1) was never able to pull closer than nine in the third quarter, and Lourdes slowly pulled away in the fourth, leading by as many as 20, 71-51, with 6:20 remaining in the game.
 
Sydney Miller (Huntsville, Ohio/Indiana Lake H.S.) led Lourdes with 21 points, making five three-pointers, while Daija Stafford (Louisville, Ky./Moore H.S.) added 14 points off the bench.  Erin Manley (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) was one rebound shy of a double-double in her collegiate debut, finishing the night with 10 points and nine boards.
 
Sha'kerria Walker led the Crusaders with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Kariontae Victor and Brianna Mayes added 11 points each.
 
Lourdes (1-0) will have eight days off before returning to action on Nov. 7 as the Gray Wolves travel to Celina, Ohio to face Wright State-Lake.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. inside Auglaize-Mercer County YMCA.
