Madonna found the back of the net in the 57
th minute for the lone goal of the match on Wednesday evening, as the Crusaders defeated Lourdes 1-0 at Wildcat Stadium.

"I thought there were two teams playing extremely hard out there tonight," head coach
Barry Spitzer said after the match. "We made a couple of small mistakes and they made us pay for them. I think overall we are right where we want to be, and with a little more hard work, we will get the results we want."

The opening 45 minutes was scoreless, with Madonna holding a 9-5 edge in total shot attempts, but just a slim 3-2 advantage on goal.

The Crusaders broke through with 33:04 remaining as Yuri Farkas sent a long ball across the box from the right sideline to Ludvick Asigo, who scored far post from the left side of the penalty area.

Lourdes was unable to find the equalizer the rest of the way. Madonna (8-1-1, 3-0-1 WHAC) outshot the Gray Wolves 15-7 for the night, but just 7-5 on goal.

Jose Cedillo (Monterrey, Mexico/Norcross H.S.) made six saves between the posts for Lourdes while Joe Smith made five stops for the Crusaders.

Lourdes (4-4-1, 2-2) will begin a four-match road trip on Saturday afternoon, heading to Detroit, Mich. to face Marygrove. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Marygrove Athletic Complex.
