Lourdes opened the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday evening, dropping a 93-47 contest to Aquinas inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Â
The Gray Wolves shot just 27.4% from the floor on the evening and committed 28 turnovers while Aquinas connected at a 58% clip on the night.
Â
"It's difficult to overcome self-inflected deficits," head coach
Summer Quesenberry said after the game. "We turned the ball over 28 times which led to 32 points. Additionally, we gave them 12 second chance points and 11 points from the free throw line. We are capable of much more and expect adjustments this week made in practice to behoove our work ethic and overall tenacity on the court."
Â
Aquinas jumped in front quickly with a 10-0 run in the opening quarter to take the lead for good. The Gray Wolves were within two, 20-18, early in the second quarter before a 23-6 spurt by the Saints to close the half gave the visitors a 43-24 lead at the break. Aquinas continued to add to its lead throughout the second half, going on a 20-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters. Â
Lourdes failed to produce a double figure scorer on the evening, as
Sara Semler (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) and
Mirandia Green (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with eight points each.Â
Â
Michaela Faber led Aquinas (4-2, 1-0 WHAC) with 22 points, making 10-of-11 shots from the floor, while Camaryia Williams added 12 points.
