Despite tying the game in the closing seconds of both regulation and the first overtime period, Lourdes finished on the short end of a 76-69 decision to Indiana-South Bend on Saturday afternoon inside the Student Activities Center in South Bend, Ind.

"We played hard," head coach
Josh Gibson said following the game. "The guys really competed and wanted the victory. Unfortunately, they just made a few more plays down the stretch in both overtime periods to secure the win."

Trailing by three with 10 seconds to play in regulation,
Hamish Abbott (Melbourne, Australia/Rowville Secondary) made a three-pointer from just left of the top of the circle to tie the game at 51, forcing overtime.Â

Malik Thurman's (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins H.S.) jumper two minutes into the first extra session gave Lourdes a six-point advantage, 59-53. The Titans responded with an 11-3 run to take a two-point lead into the closing seconds when
Kadeim Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Marshall H.S.) was fouled. The freshman converted a pair of free throws, as the Gray Wolves went 8-for-8 from the line in the period, to tie the game at 64, forcing a second overtime.

Indiana-South Bend (5-4) scored the first 11 points of the second extra session, making three triples in the first three minutes, and Lourdes was unable to make another comeback attempt.

Lourdes built a first half lead following a 12-0 run, in which Thurman's three-pointer put the visitors in front 23-9 with 3:04 remaining before halftime. The Titans responded, closing within eight, 27-19, heading into the locker room.

The Gray Wolves maintained their lead until the 12:15 mark of the second half when a three-pointer by T.J. Benner put Indiana-South Bend on top 35-33. The lead changed hands five times down the stretch and was tied on six occasions, the final one on Abbott's triple which forced overtime.

Thurman led Lourdes with 17 points while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end of the floor.Â
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) added 14 points and Jones chipped in 12 as the Gray Wolves finished with three players in double figures.Â

Benner led Indiana-South Bend with 25 points while Taylor Brooks added 12 points and had a game-high 15 rebounds.Â

Lourdes (4-5) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Livonia, Mich. to battle Madonna. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. inside The Activities Center.
