"We did not play our defense well tonight," head coach
Summer Quesenberry said after the game. "We were late in our second and third rotations which allowed their shooters too many open looks at the rim. Offensively we couldn't buy a made shot. No offense plus no defense will always equal a regrettable loss."
Â
Lourdes led nearly the entire opening quarter, and by as many as seven points, until the Warriors closed the stanza on an 11-1 run, keeping the Gray Wolves scoreless from the field for the final four minutes, to take a three-point lead after 10 minutes.
Â
A 14-4 run allowed Rochester to widen its lead in the second, and the hosts took a 37-27 lead into the locker room. The Warriors put the game away early in the third, scoring nine unanswered points, and slowly widened the advantage throughout the remainder of the second half.
Â
Tatyana Reynolds (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) came off the bench to lead Lourdes with 15 points while
Sydney Miller (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake H.S.) added 14 more.Â
Â
Maddy Valko led all scorers for Rochester (8-4, 4-3 WHAC) with 21 points while Devan Volko added 19 more. Rikki Scherdt grabbed 10 rebounds for the Warriors as the hosts outboarded the Gray Wolves 48-32 for the night.
Â
Lourdes (5-7, 2-5) will step out of conference play on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Wyoming, Mich. to battle Grace Bible. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. inside of Aldrich Athletic Facility.
Â
"I look forward to getting into the gym tomorrow and overcoming our deficits," Quesenberry added.
