Lourdes heads into the holiday break on a positive note after the Gray Wolves defeated Akron Wayne 88-57 on Tuesday evening inside of the Boyer Health and PE Center in
Orrville, Ohio.
With the victory, the Gray Wolves end an eight game losing skid dating back to a triumph over Carlow on Nov. 11.
With a balanced offensive effort, the Gray Wolves had nine players score six or more points, led by 14 from
Jordan Fabry (
Shalersville, Ohio/Crestwood H.S.).Â
Vic McEwen (Flint, Mich./Atherton H.S.), who entered the game with four career points, added 13 for Lourdes as the only other Gray Wolf to finish in double figures.
Lourdes shot 62.1% from the floor in the opening half, but led just 42-34 at the break. Akron Wayne led most of the opening 11 minutes before a 10-0 run put the Gray Wolves in front for good, 29-24, with eight minutes to play before halftime. Another 10-1 spurt from Lourdes allowed the Gray Wolves to increase the lead to 39-29 before leading by eight at intermission.

The Warriors were within seven, 50-43, with 14 minutes to play before a 12-2 Gray Wolf run pushed the Lourdes advantage to double figures for good. Lourdes closed the game with a 21-2 run over the final six minutes for the game's final margin.

Lourdes finished the game shooting 50.7% from the floor and outrebounded Akron Wayne 43-37.
Deirre Powell led Akron Wayne (2-12) with 20 points.
Lourdes (5-9) will take nine days off for Christmas before returning to the hardwood on Dec. 28 for an exhibition game against Bowling Green.Â
