A hot-shooting first half kept Lourdes within striking distance of the top-ranked team in NAIA Division II for nearly 30 minutes on Wednesday evening, but Cornerstone pulled away down the stretch to defeat the Gray Wolves 90-60 inside of Mol Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Lourdes shot 60% from the floor, and made 6-of-7 (85.7%) three-point shots in the opening stanza, but Cornerstone was nearly as hot on the way to building an eight-point halftime lead. The Golden Eagles connected at a 63% clip in the first 20 minutes, and made 10 of their first 12 shots from the floor.

After Cornerstone jumped out to a 7-0 lead, Lourdes was able to pull within one, 10-9, but never was able to take the lead in the contest. The Golden Eagles slowly pushed the lead out to 10, 25-15, midway through the stanza, but Lourdes was able to hang around. After the lead grew to 14 with 3:02 to play in the half, Lourdes was able to score the next seven points to cut the deficit in half, and eventually trailed 45-37 at the break.

The deficit was just 11, 61-50, with 10 minutes to play in the game before Cornerstone went on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes to put the game out of reach. The Gray Wolves cooled off, shooting just 29% in the final 20 minutes to finish at 42.9% for the game. The Golden Eagles would finish at a 54.2% clip, while making 11-of-25 three-point attempts.

Anthony Swanigan (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) led Lourdes with 20 points while
Evan Vasquez (Delta, Ohio/Delta H.S.) came off of the bench to add 13 points, including three triples.Â
Najeeb Johnson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights H.S.) tallied 10 points and six assists, giving the Gray Wolves three players who finished in double figures.

Kyle Steigenga led all players with 28 points and 15 rebounds for Cornerstone (23-2, 16-1 WHAC), making 9-of-11 shots from the floor and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. He also added five assists. Cory Cox added 20 points for the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone finished with a 45-19 rebounding advantage, including a 14-4 edge on the offensive glass, which led to a 15-4 edge in second chance points.

Lourdes (4-20, 3-14) will close out the three-game road trip on Saturday afternoon, facing a third straight nationally-ranked foe. The Gray Wolves will battle 15
th-ranked Davenport inside of the DU Student Center in Grand Rapids, with tip-of scheduled for 3 p.m.
