Â
Both Lourdes and Missouri Valley began the match slowly to open the day, with neither team hitting above .100 in the first two sets. Lourdes scored the first five points in the opener and never trailed to take the early lead. In the second, there were 13 ties, and despite battling back from a 23-20 deficit, the Gray Wolves were never able to gain the lead late in the stanza.
Â
Another 5-0 start for the Gray Wolves in the third allowed the hosts to lead from start to finish, while the offense heated up, hitting .480 with 15 kills in the set. Lourdes never trailed in the fourth either, added 15 more kills to secure the match.
Â
"We started off slow, but we began to put things together and became more consistent as the match went along," head coach
Greg Reitz said of the opener. "We began playing really well by the end.  We played some really good defense; we just need to learn to be a little more disciplined."
Â
Colby Magorien (Agoura Hills, Calif./Westlake H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 13 kills while
Eric Ubior (Guaynabo, P.R./Wesleyan Academy) added 11 more.Â

Â
"The third set was unbelievable, and we began to take care of the ball," Reitz added.
