Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) scored a game-high 28 points in just 25 minutes of action, surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for her career on Saturday, but Lourdes saw its season come to a close with a 96-72 loss at 25
th-ranked Siena Heights at the SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
Â
Fidler finishes her junior season with 1,001 points through her first three seasons, reaching the plateau on two free throws with six seconds remaining.
Â
Three other Gray Wolves finished the game in double figures, as
Daja Whiteside (Auburn Hills, Mich./Avondale H.S.) closed her career with 12 points while
Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) and
Kalena Harris (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee H.S.) each added 10 points.
Â
Lourdes (7-23, 5-17 WHAC) scored the game's first four points, but that would be the only advantage of the night for the Gray Wolves. A 12-0 run by the Saints put the hosts in front for good, 15-7, and Siena Heights would maintain the eight point advantage into the second quarter.
Â
The Gray Wolves were able to pull within four, 23-19, three minutes into the second, but another run by Siena Heights, this one 13 unanswered points, helped push the Saints lead to 19 before setting for a 40-23 advantage at the break.
Â
The Saints lead was at least 14 the entire second half as Lourdes was unable to make a comeback attempt.
Â
Siena Heights created a 54-34 advantage on the glass, and turned 23 offensive rebounds into 21 second chance points. The Saints also held the Gray Wolves to just 32.4% shooting for the night.
Â
"Rebounds were the difference in our game tonight," head coach
Summer Quesenberry said afterwards. "Their second chance opportunities were too frequent and that created a deficit that added up quickly and deeply."
Â
April Watson led Siena Heights (22-8, 15-7) with 22 points and 20 rebounds while Jaaliyah Arrington added 21 points. Sharmaine Wills also had a double-double for the Saints with 11 points and 13 boards.
Â
In addition to Whiteside,
Mariah DuPree (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) also saw her career come to a close for the Gray Wolves.
