Lourdes battled back from a four-run deficit on Tuesday to defeat Indiana Wesleyan 5-4 at the Perfect Game Complex in Cartersville, Ga. in the third game of a four-game series.
Â
"I'm proud of this team's resilience," head coach
Jeremy Snow said afterwards. "We've played three straight games in which we've battled all the way through to the end."
Â
Indiana Wesleyan took the lead in the second with a pair of runs before adding two more in the third to build a 4-0 advantage. Lourdes cut its deficit in half in the fourth as
Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.) and

Â
The Gray Wolves pulled within one in the sixth as Stanley reached on an infield single, stole second, and came around to score following a pair of defensive errors.
Â
Trailing 4-3 heading into the eighth,
Daniel Krueger (Eastpointe, Mich./Lakeshore H.S), pinch-running for
Noah Childress (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.), who was hit by a pinch, scored on a passed ball. With the game tied with two outs and runners on the corners,
Zak Laubscher (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.) and
Jonathan Barker (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) executed a double steal with Laubscher swiping home for the go-ahead run.
Â
Liam Bloom (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.), who came on to pitch in the seventh earned the win (1-1) in relief while
Mike Vomastek (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson H.S.) tossed two scoreless innings to close the game and pick up his first save of the year.
Â
"Liam came back after a tough loss yesterday to give us a key inning and earn the win while Vomastek was solid closing the game," Snow added.
Â
Lourdes managed nine hits in the game, with Stanley tallying three.Â
Dan Johnson (Westland, Mich./Franklin H.S.) had two more hits off of the bench.
Â
"This was a total team effort with guys filling their roles," Snow concluded. "
Dan Johnson gave us some really competitive at bats off of the bench."
Â
