Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: The 2017 season comes to a close this week for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves play three times over the final four days of the season. Lourdes hosts Aquinas on Wednesday and Lawrence Tech on Friday before traveling to Lawrence Tech for the finale on Saturday.
Head Coach Paul Sieben: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Paul Sieben has a 16-44 (.267) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as a collegiate head coach. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history. Sieben was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2016.
Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 5-2 dating back to March 22, 2014. The Saints won the first meeting between the two schools 14-6 on March 19 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Lourdes won the only previous meeting at Wildcat Stadium, 10-4, on March 19, 2016. Lawrence Tech is 6-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to March 25, 2014. Last year the Blue Devils scored 19-2 and 17-5 wins over the Gray Wolves.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Indiana Tech jumped in front 7-1 on Wednesday on the way to defeating Lourdes 19-9 at Wildcat Stadium.
Alyssa Long led the Gray Wolves with six goals. On Saturday, Siena Heights scored the game-winner with 5:38 to play, defeating Lourdes 15-14 in Adrian, Mich. Long tallied eight goals in the loss. The Gray Wolves scored seven of the first eight goals on Monday afternoon and defeated Madonna 19-4. Long had a game-high six goals in the victory.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won three of their last four games after defeating Marian at home 20-12 on Saturday afternoon. Anna Curcuru leads Aquinas with 49 and 29 assists for 78 total points while Cara Burns has added 46 goals and 58 points. Genevieve Terrana has played a majority of the minutes in goal, sporting a 13.47 goals against average and a .422 save percentage.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the week having won five straight after downing Madonna 20-1 on Saturday. Lawrence Tech is at Indiana Tech on Tuesday and Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday before facing Lourdes. Kadijah Kalo leads the Blue Devils with 55 goals and 85 points while Marie Klonowski has a 6.96 goals against average and a .535 save percentage in goal.
Schedule Updates: With three postponements this year, Lourdes has rescheduled the final one while already making up the other two. The Gray Wolves will host Lawrence Tech on Friday at Wildcat Stadium in a make-up of the March 26 game that was a casualty of lightning.
Looking to Match the School Mark: Lourdes needs one victory this week to match the school record of six wins, set during the 2016 season. The Gray Wolves' five wins this year already rank second in program history.
Record-Setting Season: With three games left to play, Lourdes has already set the school record with 157 goals, surpassing the 2015 mark of 130. The Gray Wolves have also tallied 25 assists, five more than the 2015 and 2016 teams, and 182 points, shattering the 2015 record of 150. In addition, Lourdes is 23 ground balls away from the 2014 record of 309 and eight draw controls shy of the 2014 record of 150.
Thanks Lolo: Lourdes will honor its lone senior,
Lolo Garza, prior to Wednesday's game with Aquinas. Garza is the first four-year player in program history, and has appeared in a school record 47 games.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Alyssa Long ranks fifth in NAIA in total shot attempts (111) and shots on goal (93), and sixth in goals (59).
Kiley Ketteman is ninth in the country with 116 total saves.
This and That: Lourdes is outscoring opponents 92-91 in the first half this season ...
Mary Tressel has collected a school record 59 ground balls and is seven shy of the draw control record with 39 ... the Gray Wolves have won two of their last three home games.
