After waiting out a one-hour and thirteen minute lightning delay, Lourdes University opened its 2017 season on Monday evening, playing to a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the University of Indiana East at Wildcat Stadium.

Lourdes struck first, as
Orlando Gomez (Bogota, Columbia/American H.S.) sent a corner into the box in the 38
th minute.
Haggi Amirally (Kinshasa, Congo/Byron Nelson H.S.) got a head on the ball and found the back of the net, beating Red Wolves' netminder Aaron Gibson.

Playing in and out of the rain throughout the match, Lourdes held a narrow 4-3 shot advantage at the break while maintaining the one-goal lead.

Indiana East (0-2-1) evened the match in the 63
rd minute when Dumi Kumwenda played a long ball from midfield into the box. Trevor Lenke made a run onto the ball, and scored to tie the contest 1-1.

The Red Wolves went a man down in the 88
th minute as a result of a red card to Billy Guerrero, but Lourdes was unable to take advantage in the end of regulation or either overtime period.

"You have to give them all the credit in the world," head coach
Barry Spitzer said after the match. "They played well and made the most of their opportunities tonight. They continued to play hard even a man down late."

Lourdes finished the match with a 16-14 shot advantage, but it was the Red Wolves that held a 7-4 edge on goal.Â
Jose Cedillo (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross H.S.) made six saves for the Gray Wolves while Gibson made three stops for the visitors.

Lourdes (0-0-1) will remain home on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves host Cleary. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
