Lourdes extended its home court win streak to 30 straight matches on Friday, while improving to 13-0 in the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center, as the Gray Wolves defeated Lawrence Tech 25-19, 26-24, 17-25, 25-15.
Â
The Gray Wolves have not lost on their home floor since falling in five sets to Northwestern Ohio at Tam-o-Shanter on Nov. 1, 2014.
Â
"We have played very well in our home building," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match. "This was a quality conference win for us tonight against a team playing extremely well coming into the match."
Â
Lourdes started quick, scoring the first seven points of the match behind the service of
Angelica Dippold (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy). The Blue Devils pulled to within three, 13-10, only to see the Gray Wolves respond with five unanswered points to put the opening set out of reach.
Â
The second set was tight throughout, with 13 ties. Lourdes went on a 7-0 run to break a 13-13 deadlock, only to see the Blue Devils claw back with five unanswered points, and eventually knotted the contest at 23. With the set tied at 24, Lourdes took advantage of a service error from Lawrence Tech before a kill from
Cierra Martinez (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.).
Â
Lawrence Tech used a 9-2 run to build a 14-8 lead in the third and withstood a Lourdes rally as the Gray Wolves closed to within four, 19-15, to extend the match. The Blue Devils became just the second team in the history of the Ebeid Rec Center to take a set from the Gray Wolves with the victory in the third.
Â
Lourdes took control early in the fourth.Â
Shannon Fischer (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) served up a 6-0 run, and the Gray Wolves closed out the match hitting .308 as a team in the final stanza.
