Lourdes closed out play at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, sweeping Taylor before dropping a three-set match to the host Wildcats inside of Luckey Arena in Marion, Ind.

The 22
nd-ranked Gray Wolves opened the day downing the Trojans 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 before falling to 21
st-ranked Indiana Wesleyan 25-13, 25-20, 25-15.

The Gray Wolves opened the day holding Taylor to just .046 hitting while recording 41 kills of their own in the straight sets win.

"We played well this morning," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "It was more of a complete match. We served and received aggressively which allowed us to distribute more offensively. Our setters did a good job of moving the ball around, while defensively we did a good job with our hands."

Lourdes started fast in the opening set, building a 15-4 lead as the Trojans hit -.051 while committing 10 errors. In the second, Lourdes led 17-11 before Taylor pulled within two, 20-18. The Gray Wolves never allowed the Trojans to get any closer, building a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the final set Lourdes hit .312 with 15 kills, but the Gray Wolves still found themselves trailing 18-17. After evening the set at 20, Lourdes scored five of the next six points to close out the match.

Chelsea Lawrence (Palmdale, Calif./Highland H.S.) led Lourdes with 12 kills while swinging at a .550 clip while
Genessee Tate (West Covina, Calif./West Covina H.S.) added 10 kills.Â
Evynn Eubanks (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia H.S.) and
Jami Markus (Oregon, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) handed out 18 and 16 assists respectively.Â
Angelica Dippold (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) led the defense with 19 digs.

Callie Drage led Taylor (5-3) with nine kills while Jamie Scherb had 16 digs for the Trojans.

In the afternoon against Indiana Wesleyan, the Gray Wolves managed to hit just .021 while allowing the Wildcats to record 11 service aces in the three-set win.

"We were not good at all this afternoon," Reitz stated. "There's not much else you can say."

Indiana Wesleyan scored six consecutive points to build a 13-5 lead in the opening set to take the early lead in the match. After the second set was tied at 14, a 5-0 run by the Wildcats opened up the advantage they would need to take a 2-0 edge. The hosts scored the first eight points of the third set and Lourdes was never able to make a run.

Tate led Lourdes with seven kills while Dippold had 13 digs.

Tay Thomas led Indiana Wesleyan (7-2) with nine kills and hit .474 while Abigail Rutt registered 18 digs.

Lourdes (6-3) will head to Adrian, Mich. on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against Siena Heights. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the SHU Fieldhouse.
