Lourdes closed out its three-game series with the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday afternoon, completing the weekend sweep of the Wolverines with a 6-2 victory at Mercy Field.
Â
"This was another great team effort to come out and sweep the series," head coach
Jeremy Snow said after the game. "It's tough to beat a team three times, especially in the fall when everyone has just started practicing."
Â
Matt York (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) went eight innings, allowing just two runs and nine hits while striking out seven, to earn the win (1-0) while
Adam Hoyos (Oro Valley, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro H.S.) tossed a perfect ninth to close out the victory.
Â
"Matt pitched a great ball game today," Snow added. "He allowed us to give the bullpen a rest."
Â
Lourdes jumped in front with a pair of runs in the opening inning.Â
Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.) opened with a single up the middle, stole second, and scored on
Cole Cantelon's (Langley, B.C./Brookswood Secondary) single.Â
Reilly Walters (Bowmanville, Ont./Bowmanville H.S.) added a run-scoring single with two outs in the frame to plate
Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Bradshaw Mountain H.S.), but the Gray Wolves stranded the bases loaded with a chance to add more runs.
Â
The Gray Wolves again loaded the bases in the second, but managed just one run on a Cantelon single for his second RBI of the day.
Â
UM-Dearborn (0-3, 0-3 WHAC) cut the deficit to one in the third with three hits, but York would shut the Wolverines down the rest of the way, scattering just five hits after the third.
Â
A
Glen Crabtree (Medina, Ohio/Black River H.S.) single in the seventh allowed Lourdes to tack on an insurance run before Stanley delivered a RBI single and later scored on a double by
Cameron Gallo (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick H.S.) in the eighth.
Â
Stanley went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the leadoff spot while Cantelon and Walters each had two hits.
Â
"I couldn't be more pleased of our leadoff hitters this weekend, going 12-for-14 with nine runs scored. They really set the table for our offense."
Â
Dan Bos started and suffered the loss (0-1) for the Wolverines, allowing three runs, six hits, and five walks in three innings.
Â
Lourdes (3-0, 3-0) will return to the diamond next Saturday for a doubleheader against Indiana Tech. First pitch in game one of the twinbill is set for noon at Warrior Athletic Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.
