Haggi Amirally (Kinshasa, Congo/Byron Nelson H.S.) recorded a hat trick on Thursday afternoon, helping lead Lourdes to its first win of the 2017, as the Gray Wolves defeated Grace Bible 5-0 at Velting Field in Wyoming, Mich.
"We played a complete match today, and played well as a team," head coach
Barry Spitzer said after the victory. "Practice was finally starting to show up in the game for us."
Lourdes wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Amirally volleyed home a feed from
Reece Riccardi (Jupiter, Fla./Suncoast H.S.) at the far post just 1:49 into the match to put the Gray Wolves in front.
Less than nine minutes later,
Adilson Darosa (Pawtucket, R.I./Shea H.S.) won the ball on the end line and sent a cross from the left to the far post where
Judah Goodridge (Brooklyn, N.Y./Dutchtown H.S.) put a foot on the ball and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Darosa started the Gray Wolves' third goal as well, sending a ball inside the six and connected with Amirally for his second goal of the match and third of the season.
Lourdes took the 3-0 lead into intermission after outshooting Grace Bible 15-4 in the opening 45 minutes, including a 6-2 edge on goal.
The Gray Wolves added to the lead at the 62:45 mark as Riccardi registered his first goal of the year, following a corner kick from
Akilla Arno (Omaha, Neb./Northwest Magnet H.S.).
Amirally completed his hat trick in the 84
th minute, sending a free kick into the top left corner from 30 yards out.
Lourdes finished the match with a 24-11 shot advantage.
Jose Cedillo (Monterrey, Mexico/Norcross H.S.) made two saves on the way to his fifth career shutout. Jake Larson made three saves in goal for Grace Bible (1-3) while Mark Olson came on in relief for the Tigers and made one stop.
Lourdes (1-1-1) will remain on the road when the Gray Wolves return to action battling Indiana Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the IWU Soccer Field in Marion, Ind.
