Lourdes wrapped up the first half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening with a 69-57 victory on the road at Siena Heights inside the SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
Â
The Gray Wolves took control of the game midway through the first half, going on an 8-0 run to take a 17-10 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
Â
"I am very pleased with the effort of the guys tonight," head coach
Josh Gibson said afterwards. "These players have all the talent in the world and are capable of winning every time they step on the floor."
Â
Lourdes continued to build upon the lead, pushing it to double figures, 26-16, following a
Clif Snow (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown H.S.) basket with just over five minutes to play before halftime.Â
Malik Thurman's (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins H.S.) three-pointer just before the break put Lourdes in front 35-24 at intermission.
Â
Siena Heights cut the Gray Wolf advantage to four, 45-41, with just over 10 minutes to play, before
Desmond Frazier (Ocala, Fla./Dunnellon H.S.) made a three-pointer to start an 18-6 Lourdes run, pushing the lead back to 16, the largest of the night for the Gray Wolves. The advantage would remain in double figures the rest of the way for Lourdes, as the visitors won for the fifth time in their last six regular season games.
Â
Snow led Lourdes with 17 points, including four triples, while Thurman added 14 more. Lourdes shot 46.3% from the floor for the night, and committed just 12 turnovers while forcing 16 Saint miscues.
Â
Keith Jordan, Jr. led Siena Heights (7-10, 3-7 WHAC) with 18 points and nine rebounds. The Saints shot 42% from the floor, but just 53.8% from the free throw line.
Â
"Inconsistencies in our preparation mentally and in being ready to bring our best effort for every game has really been the main thing we have struggled with at times," Gibson added. "I hope this game serves as a positive step forward in our journey as we seek to finish the season strong."
Â
Lourdes (9-10, 2-8) returns home to begin the second half of WHAC play on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves host the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
