In a pair of matches that came down to the final bout, Lourdes suffered defeats to both Case Western and Thiel on Wednesday evening inside of Horsbourgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio.
 
The Gray Wolves fell 25-21 to host Case Western before suffering a 25-24 loss to Thiel in a match that finished tied at 24 and was determined by criteria, with the Tomcats recording more falls than the Gray Wolves.
 
The matches, which were held simultaneously on two mats, and jumping weight classes, were the first for Lourdes in the 2018 calendar year.
 
"This was a tough way to start the second semester," head coach Dock Kelly III said following the matches.  "We did not wrestle consistently tonight, and it cost us two team wins."
 
Ray Porter (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville H.S.), making his season debut, won both of his contests at 125 pounds.  He won via a first period pin against Case Western before registering a 13-3 major decision against Thiel.
 
Bobby Kelley (Ney, Ohio/Fairview H.S.), competing for the first time as a Gray Wolf, registered a pair of technical falls at 165 pounds.  He was a 21-5 victor against the Tomcats and defeated Case Western 15-0.
 
Grant Pittroff (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg H.S.) earned a pair of 174-pound victories in his Lourdes debut.  He pinned Case Western in just 13 seconds before winning via forfeit against Thiel.
 
Flynn Hamilton (Tucker, Ga./Tucker H.S.), in his first action this season, earned a win over Case Western at 149 pounds, scoring a 14-6 major decision for the Gray Wolves' only other victory against the hosts.
 
Tyler Roberts (Hudson, Mich./Hudson H.S.) registered his team-leading 11^th win of the year against Thiel, scoring a 4-0 decision at 133 pounds.  Tyler Houston (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) added his first collegiate victory in the match against the Tomcats, recording a first period fall.
 
"We have a small window of time to correct our errors, and then we have to be ready for the Spartan Mat Classic on Saturday," Kelly added.
 
Lourdes (2-9) returns to the mat in North Manchester, Ind. on Saturday morning to compete in the Spartan Mat Classic.  Action is slated to begin at 9 a.m. inside of Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
