Lourdes saw its four-game winning streak end on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves closed out their four-game homestand with a 76-55 loss to Lawrence Tech inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Â
"Give all the credit to Lawrence Tech today," head coach
Josh Gibson said afterwards. "They came to play and took it to us."
Â
Lourdes started slowly offensively as the Blue Devils raced out to a 22-4 lead over the game's first 14 minutes. The Gray Wolves started 2-for-19 from the floor on their way to shooting just 20% in the first half, including 0-for-10 from three-point range. Lawrence Tech took a 32-10 lead into the locker room.
Â
After the Blue Devils extended the lead to 25 with a three-pointer to start the final 20 minutes, Lourdes began to battle back. A
McRay White (Cleveland, Ohio/Garfield H.S.) dunk with 12:42 to play pulled the Gray Wolves to within 17, only to see Lawrence Tech score the next seven points.
Â
Lourdes again chipped away, cutting the deficit to 15, 58-43, with 4:30 to play after
Darriontae Stewart (Cleveland, Ohio/Rhodes H.S.) scored inside. Again, the Blue Devils responded, scoring the next six points on the way to the victory.
Â
Jordan Fabry (Shalersville, Ohio/Crestwood H.S.) was the only Gray Wolf to finish in double figures, scoring 13 points, and Lourdes finished the game shooting 37.3% from the floor after connecting at a 50% clip in the second half.
Â
Alek Ivanovic led four Blue Devils in double figures, scoring 23 points, making six three-pointers. Travis Baker added 17 points for Lawrence Tech (2-14, 1-9 WHAC) while Devonte Myles added 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Â
Lourdes (8-10, 1-8) concludes the first half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening, traveling to Adrian, Mich. to battle Siena Heights. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. inside the SHU Fieldhouse.
