Lourdes ended its five-match losing skid in convincing fashion on Wednesday evening, sweeping Rochester (Mich.) 25-17, 25-16, 25-12 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"It was good to finally break the streak," head coach Greg Reitz said after the match.  "We played well at home, limited our errors, and most importantly played as a team."

Kristin Murrell (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) put down 14 kills and tallied 14 digs while hitting .433 to lead the way for the Gray Wolves while Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) added 12 kills and hit .375.  As a team Lourdes hit .287 with Carol Goncalves (Brazilia, Brazil/Sagrado Corcacao de Maria H.S.) handing out 32 assists.  Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) had a match-high 16 digs.

"Kristin really played well all the way around," Reitz added.

Lourdes trailed just once in the match, and that was early in the opening set.  Behind 5-1, the Gray Wolves went on a 7-1 run to pull in front and never saw itself in a deficit the rest of the match.  The 7-1 spurt was the start of a larger 16-3 run that broke open the first set.

In the second, the Gray Wolves led 17-6 before the Warriors closed to within four, 20-16.  The Gray Wolves served out the stanza though, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Gray Wolves hit .400 in the final set while holding Rochester to a .000 hitting percentage.  Lourdes led 11-2 before coasting to the win.

Calla McNulty led Rochester (2-29, 1-18 WHAC) with five kills while Kaitlyn Williams tallied 13 digs.

Lourdes (17-7, 14-5) will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Northwestern Ohio.  With a win, the Gray Wolves would assure themselves no worse than a tie for second place in the league standings.  First serve is set for 1 p.m. with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the match.
