Lourdes honored its six members of the senior class prior to the match on Saturday afternoon before the University of Northwestern Ohio spoiled the celebration with a 25-10, 13-25, 25-22, 25-18 victory over the Gray Wolves inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"We came out really flat and struggled to get things going," head coach
Greg Reitz said afterwards. "The second set we played really well but lost our rhythm for the final two sets. We need to regroup and get better before postseason play begins on Wednesday."

Northwestern Ohio jumped out to a quick lead, scoring the first nine points of the match. The Racers held Lourdes to a -.024 hitting mark and just six kills in cruising to the opening set win.

The Gray Wolves responded in the second, putting down 18 kills and hitting .424. Trailing 11-10,
Carol Goncalves (Brazilia, Brazil/Sagrado Corcacao de Maria H.S.) served nine straight points as part of a closing 15-2 run to even the match.

Lourdes led 19-18 late in the third before Northwestern Ohio pulled in front with three quick points and held on to win the set. The Gray Wolves led 16-15 in the fourth as well, but a 10-2 run by the Racers allowed the visitors to close out the match.

Kristin Murrell (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) led Lourdes with 18 kills and hit .348 while
Emily Drenth (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South H.S.) added 12 kills and
Allie Hale (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) chipped in 11 more for the Gray Wolves.

The Gray Wolves hit just .168 for the match with Goncalves handing out 42 assists.

Defensively,
Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) and
Monique Oliveira (Rio Branco, Brazil/Sagrado Corcacao de Maria H.S.) tallied 20 digs each while
Alli Plasencio (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) added 12 more.

Devon Heitkamp led Northwestern Ohio (26-8, 13-7 WHAC) with 17 kills and hit .389 while Falvia Knutti recorded 25 digs.

Lourdes (17-8, 14-6) will host a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal match on Wednesday evening beginning at 7 p.m. inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Tournament pairings will be announced by the league office later in the weekend.
