Lourdes never trailed on Wednesday evening inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center, and snapped a four-game losing skid with a 72-56 victory over Madonna.

"We played much stronger team defense tonight," head coach
Summer Quesenberry said following the game. "Most impressive was the amount of deflections and willingness to dive on the floor for loose balls. We gave great ball pressure tonight, which forced 24 turnovers and provided 15 of our points offensively. Playing great defense will always lead to great offensive opportunities."

The Gray Wolves shot 55.9% from the floor in the opening half, including a sizzling 64.7% (11-of-17) in the second quarter. Lourdes also forced 13 first half turnovers, which led to a 14-point halftime advantage.

The Gray Wolves led from the opening basket, but never more than six points in the opening quarter before taking a 16-14 lead into the second stanza. Madonna tied the game at 20 and 22, but never was able to take the lead, and Lourdes finished the period on a 16-4 run to build a 40-26 lead at the break.

LaTyrah Beasley (Toledo, Ohio/Bowsher H.S.) made 8-of-10 shots from the floor for the Gray Wolves in the opening 20 minutes on her way to 16 points.

Madonna made a run in the third period, closing to within seven, 49-42, with 2:45 to play, but Lourdes managed to score the final four points of the quarter to rebuild a double figure lead heading into the final 10 minutes. A 10-3 run over four minutes in the fourth pushed the lead back to 19, and the Gray Wolves were able to secure the victory.

Beasley finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 24 points while grabbing 14 rebounds.Â
Tatyana Reynolds (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.) added 12 points while
Jami Hardy (Perrysburg, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) chipped in 10 more as Lourdes finished the night shooting 45.6% from the field.

Becca Sabol led Madonna (10-15, 6-11 WHAC) with 17 points and 18 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end, but shot just 4-of-17 from the field. Lindsey Hernden added 13 points for the Crusaders. Lourdes limited Madonna to just 32.1% from the floor on the day.
