Lourdes wrapped up play in the Warner Invitational on Saturday morning with a 12-6 victory over 12-6 victory over Spring Arbor at Avon Park in Lake Wales, Fla.
Â
"I am very proud of our trip," head coach
Jeremy Snow said after the game. "We had an 8-3 record, which is great for the program counting the reserve team wins."
Â
After the Cougars hit a home run in the top of the second to take the lead, Lourdes responded with a nine-run bottom of the inning, sending 12 batters to the plate in the frame.Â
Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.) had a three-run triple in the inning, and
Kevin Suttles (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) hit a three-run home run in the big inning.
Â
The Gray Wolves added a pair of runs in the third on a RBI single by
Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Bradshaw Mountain H.S.) and a double by
Glen Crabtree (Medina, Ohio/Black River H.S.).
Â
Braxton McKart (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) limited Spring Arbor to just the one run entering the fifth, when the Cougars plated four runs, three on a bases clearing triple. McKart earned the win (1-0), allowing six runs and six hits while striking out six in five innings of work.
Â
"McKart rebounded nicely to give us a chance and the offense continued to roll," Snow added.
Â
An RBI double by
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central H.S.) in the fifth closed out the scoring.
Â
The top four in the Lourdes lineup, Stanley, Pastor, Riggs, and Crabtree, each had two hits as part of Lourdes' 12-hit attack.
Â
Nick Carroll took the loss (0-4) for Spring Arbor (7-11), facing six batters in the second without recording an out. He allowed six runs and three hits while walking five in just over an inning.
Â
"We have several things to work on when we get back, but this team has been hard-working so far and continues to show improvement every time we step on the field," concluded Snow. "We played well, but I believe we have a lot more potential left in us."
Â
Lourdes (9-7) returns home to Mercy Field on Tuesday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves host Indiana Wesleyan. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
