Lourdes starters
Liam Bloom (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton H.S.) and
Ryan Stoller (Ohio City, Ohio/Van Wert H.S.) both had solid outings on the hill Thursday afternoon as the Gray Wolves swept both games of a doubleheader against Ohio State-Lima 8-1 and 13-1 at Mercy Field.
Â
Bloom tossed a complete game victory (1-2) in the opener, allowing just one unearned run and five hits while striking out three. Stoller went six strong innings in game two, taking a no-hitter into the sixth, on the way to his first win (1-1). Stoller struck out seven allowing just the one hit while walking six.
Â
"Today was a great bounce back performance for our two starters," head coach
Jeremy Snow said. "I though both battled the elements well and competed in the strike zone.  Offensively, we continued where we left off on the spring trip stringing together quality at bats and winning innings. I'm very proud of this group of players for how mentally tough they stayed throughout the day."
Â
The Gray Wolves struck for single runs in each of the first two innings of game two on RBI groundouts before breaking the game open with a five-run third inning.Â
Devin Stanley (Euclid, Ohio/Saint Edward H.S.) had a two-run single in the frame while
Glen Crabtree (Medina, Ohio/Black River H.S.) also had a RBI single.
Â
The Barons scored their only run in the fifth, an unearned tally on a two-out ground out.Â
Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) added a run-scoring double in the sixth, his second extra base hit in the game after leading the game off with a triple.
Â
Crabtree, Stanley, and
Dallas Riggs (Prescott, Ariz./Bradshaw Mountain H.S.) all had two-hit games as well for Lourdes, accounting for the team's eight hits.
Â
In game two, Crabtree's RBI single in the first put the Gray Wolves in front. An error, a two-run triple by Crabtree, and a single by
George Pastor (Walled Lake, Mich./Central H.S.) increased the lead to 4-0. Riggs doubled home the fifth run in the fourth inning, while Crabtree homered to left-center in the fifth for his third hit and fourth RBI of the game.
Â
Ohio State-Lima (1-8) broke up Stoller's no-hitter with two outs in the sixth before plating their lone run in the inning.
Â
Lourdes responded in the bottom of the sixth with six runs of its own, sending 10 batters to the plate in the inning.
Â
Riggs had two hits in the game in addition to Crabtree's three as part of an 11-hit attack, while Pastor had two RBI.
