Head Coach Alyssa Shaver: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Alyssa Shaver has a 3-2 (.600) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as well as a collegiate head coach. She is just the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes will be meeting both Bethel (Ind.) and Notre Dame (Ohio) on the lacrosse field for the first time in program history.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Led by seven goals from
Tiara Reed and five each from
Alyssa Long and
Ashley Hunt, Lourdes defeated Ave Maria 17-10 on Friday afternoon in Florida.Â
Kiley Ketteman made 14 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves in the victory. On Sunday afternoon, the Gray Wolves fell behind early 9-2 and could not recover in an 18-7 setback at ninth-ranked Keiser. Long led Lourdes with three goals while Ketteman made 15 stops.
Scouting Bethel (Ind.): The Pilots are in their first season of NAIA lacrosse after finishing 14-4 in the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse League in 2017. Bethel is opening its 2018 season on Thursday at Lourdes.
Scouting Notre Dame (Ohio): The Falcons snapped a two-game losing skid on Sunday afternoon with a 13-12 victory at Kalamazoo. Notre Dame heads to Walsh on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes on Monday. Selena Carter leads Notre Dame with 12 goals and 14 points while Taylor Henderson has added eight goals and a team-high four assists. Morgan Belting has play nearly every minute in goal, sporting a 14.28 goals against average and a .353 save percentage this season.
Long Earns Second Season Honor: Alyssa Long was named the WHAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring eight goals and adding six assists in the two games against Ave Maria and Keiser. She also added 12 draw controls and had two ground balls. Long also earned WHAC Player of the Week honors both offensively and defensively on Feb. 26, and was subsequently named the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week one day later.
Matching the Best Start Ever: Lourdes' 3-2 record through the first five games of the season matches the 2016, which also opened 3-2, for the best start in program history. The earliest Lourdes has ever won four games to open a campaign was the seventh game of that same 2016 season.
Matching a Season High: Tiara Reed scored seven times for the Gray Wolves in the win at Ave Maria, matching
Alyssa Long's seven goal effort against Asbury for the most goals by a Lourdes player this season. The seven goals in a game are one shy of the school record of eight, accomplished by Long twice.
Single Game Record: Alyssa Long handed out a single game record, five assists, for Lourdes in the win at Ave Maria. She became the first player in program history to register more than two assists in a game. In addition, her 10 total points in the contest against the Gyrenes broke the old school mark of eight.
Making the Stops: Kiley Ketteman ranks fifth in the NAIA making 10.80 saves per game this season. Her 54 total saves are eighth most in the country, and she enters the week sporting an 11.60 goals against average and a .482 save percentage.
Getting Defensive: Hannah Cullis leads the Gray Wolves with 28 ground balls, 20 draw controls, and 13 caused turnovers thus far this year. She is just seven ground balls away from moving into the single season top-five all-time at Lourdes.
This and That: Lourdes is outscoring teams 53-32 in the first half this season ...
Kiley Ketteman is one save shy of 400 for her career ... the Gray Wolves have scored nine goals with a man-up advantage ... Lourdes is 0-4 all-time in home openers ... all-time the Gray Wolves are 4-9 at Wildcat Stadium.
