For the first time in 22 meetings, Lourdes suffered a defeat at the hands of Siena Heights on Wednesday evening, falling 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9 inside the SHU Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.

The fifth-ranked Gray Wolves had previously been undefeated against the Saints in men's volleyball.

"We made a lot of errors and they did a good job of limiting theirs," head coach
Greg Reitz said following the match. "We couldn't really find our rhythm offensively. Our defense started to improve as the match went on, but we just didn't make enough plays to score points."

The Saints took a tight opening set after hitting .368. Siena Heights built an early 10-4 lead, saw the Gray Wolves rally to take a 16-15 lead, and then pulled out the stanza late.

Lourdes answered in the second, hitting .333 as a team while allowing just seven kills. Trailing 5-3, the Gray Wolves scored seven straight points to take the lead on the way to evening the match.

The third set saw seven ties before Siena Heights broke the 21-21 deadlock with three consecutive points. The Saints had lead 18-12 in the stanza before the Gray Wolves battled back with eight straight points.

Lourdes needed 20 kills in the fourth set to extend the match as the Saints misfired just twice offensively. Lourdes took the lead with three straight points after trailing 18-17.

In the decisive fifth set, Siena Heights raced out to an 8-0 and withstood a late Lourdes rally. The Gray Wolves tallied just four kills in the set, hitting -.056 in the final frame.

Ricardo Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco) led Lourdes with 14 kills and hit .268 while
Jeff Lam (Richmond, B.C./Hugh McRoberts H.S.) added 13 kills.Â
Brendan Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny H.S.) had the team's top hitting percentage at .381 with his 11 kills.

Matheus Andrade (Coronel Fabriciano, Brazil/Alberto Giovannini H.S.) and
Henrique Gehrke (Blumenau, Brazil/Escola Barao Do Rio Branco) both registered double-doubles. Andrade had 12 kills and 20 digs while Gehrke added 17 digs and handed out 17 assists.

Kyle Brown led Siena Heights (17-5) with 22 kills and 17 digs while Keegan Crawford handed out 45 assists and tallied 12 digs.

Lourdes (18-6) closes out the 2018 regular season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Judson. First serve is set for noon, with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the contest.
